Feeding power: Central places and their supply systems in 9th–12th-century Central Europe

Abstrakt

Ani po 150 letech archeologického studia opevněných center, jimž běžně v raně středověké střední Evropě přisuzujeme klíčové centrální funkce, stále nemáme jasnější představu o tom, jak byly jejich populace v praxi zásobovány základními potřebami. Tento text navazuje na diskusi otevřenou Jiřím Macháčkem (2026) pro velkomoravské aglomerace. Předkládá systémový rozbor možných subsistenčních strategií, přičemž je důsledně váže k sociálnímu profilu obyvatel center a k majetkoprávním režimům, které determinovaly formy směny. Hodnocení jednotlivých modelů vychází nejen z archeologické evidence, ale i z písemných pramenů 11.–12. století. Autor dochází k závěru, že nelze předpokládat jediný univerzální mechanismus; pravděpodobnější byl souběh více strategií, které se překrývaly a které v různé míře využívaly odlišné sociální skupiny pro různé komodity. „Zázemí“ proto nenavrhuje chápat jako homogenní hospodářskou zónu kolem centra, ale jako proměnlivou síť vztahů a na ni vázaných toků komodit, jež mohly zasahovat i do výrazně vzdálených regionů.
